Frequently Asked Questions
Why doesn't Bookurator have a cover for every book?
Book covers are sourced directly from public library archives like Open Library, where some older, rarer, or niche editions may not yet have a digitized cover. For any book without an official catalog cover, Bookurator lets you design your own elegant clothbound cover using our built-in styling tool—complete with custom colors, typography, textures, and corner ornaments—ensuring your bookcase always looks cohesive and beautiful.
Why can't I upload custom book cover images?
To protect authors, artists, and publishers against copyright infringement claims and prevent unauthorized, offensive, or inappropriate imagery on our platform, Bookurator does not support custom image uploads for book covers.
How are book covers provided?
All book covers are sourced directly from verified public and library catalog databases (specifically Open Library). When you add a book or search for editions, you can select from officially catalogued editions with verified cover art.
What if a book does not have an official cover in the catalog?
If a book has no catalog cover available, or if you choose to remove a cover, Bookurator displays our signature default cover. This renders the title and author in clean, elegant typography tailored to your shelf's color theme, ensuring your bookcase always looks cohesive and beautiful.
How do I toggle between spine view and front cover view?
You can hover over any book in the shelf editor to switch between spine view and front cover view, or configure it directly in the book editor modal under "Shelf Display Mode".
Can I customize my books' colors and typography?
Yes! You can customize spine colors, fonts, widths, and styling for individual books or apply curated theme presets across your entire bookshelf.
What are the shelf limits for Free vs. Curator plans?
Free members can place up to 100 books and up to 10 static accessories per shelf (animations are not available on the Free plan). Curator members can place up to 200 books, up to 30 static accessories, and up to 8 animated accessories per shelf.
Why was my shelf duplication blocked?
To guarantee your shelves remain complete without missing titles or decorations, Bookurator never truncates items when duplicating a shelf. If a shelf has more books or accessories than allowed by your current plan, duplicating it will be rejected until you upgrade to the Curator plan.
